Suzanne Shires of Simple Homestead Living is the author of 'Wild Herb Gardening' and 'Wild Food Recipes from Beyond the Garden Gate', is a North Carolina native homesteader and certified herbalist. She grew up in a large family with acres of gardens, harvesting and preserving food as naturally as possible. She began canning with her mother at seven years old and learned sustainability from ‘mountain folk’ grandparents. Being among the first generation in her family to be born in a hospital, she grew up with Granny-women who found ways to heal from the plants and remedies of Appalachia.
Her homestead now is a happy little mix of chickens, goats, vegetable beds, cold frames, herbs gardens and fruit orchards designed make the most of a sustainable lifestyle. Over the years she began a serious education into herbalism and nutrition, including foraging wild foods and medicines, fermenting, winemaking, finding nutrition in wild foods, as well as homemade vinegars and herbal remedies.
Suzanne’s focus is on healthy, sustainable prepping and wild food survival. She believes prepping is more than just stocking instant foods in a pantry. And it takes more than just calories for us to thrive in survival situations. Being able to quickly replace nutritional food in a time of disaster is key. And making sure that food is healthy, delicious and plentiful as well as frugal is so important in any stressful situation.

Principles of Psychological Warfare in the Modern Age: Many people underestimate the power of psychology when it comes to survival. Sure we understand that in a tough situation mindset is everything. By now we have all heard the phase “survival mindset,” but what does that mean exactly and how do you really create it or use it? The answers to this are overlooked just like the answers to the various aspects of survival. Beyond a wilderness survival situation that pits a person versus nature there is also a situation in both a wilderness and urban survival scenario that could put man versus man. This statement normally brings to mind the idea of physical confrontation. How do you physically defend and combat people that want what you have or that want to hurt you? People are always surprised when I inform them that dealing with confrontation is more about the psychological than the physical. The idea that our lives are physical manifestations of our emotional and mental states and therefore how we interact with the world is determined through these aspects, is commonly over looked. As a Psychological Warfare Sergeant in the US Army I saw how powerful Psychological Warfare could be effective in the buildup or destruction of a community. This was especially evident during and after a war which is the epitome of survival situation. People are looking for food, shelter, water, security, and cause. Each one of these aspects is not just a physical need, but a mental and emotional one as well. Understanding the root cause of these needs gives leverage and to some degree, control. Those who understand how to use this leverage in essence learn to fight without fighting.
In my classes I help people understand the many dynamics of human emotional and mental defaults and characteristics. Students gain an emotional intelligence that gives them the ability to deal with the angry, needy, desperate, and violent that will be encounters during a short or long term disaster. In addition the goal is to help people understand how not to allow their own weaknesses to trap/be used against them by emotionally intelligent influencers that may seek to take advantage of them.
I also show how to identify the psychological aspects of those who are trying to take advantage and those who can be potential allies if you understand who they are and how they operate. Psychological warfare is a powerful tool that is underrated in its importance to help people maintain control, order and safety during a disaster or high risk situation. Those throughout history who knew how to use it wisely found themselves as leaders of countries and sometimes destroyers of communities. The war around you is easier to control if you understand the mindset of the players within it. This is the foundation of Psyops.

“The Cherokee Campaign” and the construction of the 18th century trade station “Martins Station." These were complete emersion endeavors. Wear only 18th century clothing, they worked using only 18th century tools, materials and techniques, while maintaining an 18th century work schedule and diet. These were long term commitments that was as close to time traveling as one can get.
John’s knowledge and skills had become as much a part of who and what he was as anything he had experienced in the contemporary world. John has now transitioned into yet another phase of his life and passions in the form of contemporary Bushcrafting and Wild Camping. He shares his journey through his YouTube channel: Boonedockery.
John Timms is a life-long student and explorer of the forest. From central Florida to South Eastern Ohio, John’s youth was spent in the forest. Upon graduating High School John enlisted in the U.S. Army and earned the M.O.S. of 19 Delta, Cavalry Scout. John took to “sneaking and peaking” like a fish takes to water. In a very short period of time, John had mastered all the skills necessary to perform his duty and develop many other skills that would fine tune his role as a Scout.
From deserts to mountainous high country and jungle environments, John learned to become one with his surroundings and execute his mission regardless of terrain or weather conditions. He received medals of Achievement and Commendation for his achievements.
John, not being one to learn passively he learned by doing via, Historical Reenacting, Experimental Archeology, Historical Trekking and Teaching. The vast majority of the 20 plus years John pursued these passions was spent with his fellow veterans in “Hobb’s Company, of His Majesties Independent Company Of Rangers." Training on their own every month regardless to weather conditions, they mastered the skills and accoutrements of the 18th century ranger. The Companies dedication was not unnoticed and was asked to lead a number of 18th century ranger schools. The company was also recruited to participate in several (5 to be exact) History Channel Documentaries. This later went on to participating in documentaries for National and State historical sites.
As the company disbanded, John became associated with Gerry Barker of “Frontier Resources.” Frontier Resources took History to an extreme level of execution and dedication. Although John participated in many endeavors with the group, the highlights were

Hasty Shelters For Your Bugout or Get Home Bags
There are Thousands of people that have spent a lot of time and money to assemble Bugout and Get Home Bags, however very few people have EVER tested their kits in part or as a
whole. If one were to utilize the “Rule of Threes” in there kit building process, the second THREE should be a major priority. In ideal conditions most people could survive 72 hours with only the clothes on their backs as their “Shelter”. How frequently are we
actually blessed with ideal environmental conditions for 72 hours? RARELY!
Shelter should be a very important item in your kit. Realistically, most Bugout and Get Home Bags are larger than what the owner could carry for 72 hours, or they are so sparse they lack vital items that experienced survivalists would consider priorities.
Shelter is a “Must Have” item, however it doesn’t have to be extravagant or complicated. Simple Tarps or Ponchos can easily provide adequate protection from the elements if properly utilized. The construction of a hasty shelter shouldn’t just focus on shielding one from harsh weather, it should also be stealthy.
This class will focus on quick, easy, effective and stealthy shelters constructed with small tarps and ponchos. These shelter items are generally multi-purpose and take up little valuable space in
your Bugout and Get Home Bags.
I HIGHLY Encourage ALL participants to bring their Bugout or Get Home Bags to class so you can set up your shelter to see if they can be erected quickly and stealthy as well as critiquing their practicality and effectiveness.
**This class will be conducted in the woods and will require minimal physical activity for those that wish to try setting the shelters up. Individuals that have limited mobility may have issues with the
class location.**

The 21st Century Minute Man: The term “Minute Man” should instantly provoke the image of an 18th century colonial citizen, ready to answer the call of duty in a minutes notice. Ready and capable of defending their home and way of life from the oppressive government of the British Empire and their battle proven military.
Currently our nation’s security is threatened from enemies foreign and domestic. As of the time of this writing, we are in the very real risk of WWIII. Recent history and current events have proven that no American Citizen can rely upon their government for warnings, aid or protection. The dependence of government assistance for the past 90
years has created a state of complacency and self-imposed helplessness that is unimaginable. There was a time in this once great nation when citizens rose to any challenge and did what was needed to be done as it was not only their right, but it was their honor and duty to do so.
This class will cover the history of the 18th century minute man and will explore how we may reinvent this honorable duty to suit the 21st century and its particular challenges. Gear, equipment and their use will be discussed and demonstrated
at length.

The Resistance Chicks are sisters, Leah and Michelle Svensson, who run a suburban farm and homestead in southern Ohio. Through their enormously popular news commentary broadcast, they want to empower people with tools to stand up against tyranny from every direction.
They have a worldwide audience and their goal is to bring real, relevant news, with a side of crazy and laughter to help the red pill go down. They stand for a righteous America, the one our Founding Fathers bled and died for America that the Pilgrims sacrificed everything to gain. Having been both educated via home school and the public school, they seek to utilize their years of study on the history and our founding fathers in hopes of right the revisionist history lies we’ve all been taught through public school indoctrination.
They end every show with their saying, “It’s not just a Conspiracy Theory if it’s the Truth” because the truth is stranger than fiction.

City and Suburban Homesteading: Homesteading is a broad term but at the base, homesteading is about being as self sufficient as possible. Whether you live in an apartment or on 100 acres, you can homestead. Leah and Michelle are sisters who live on a 1.1 acre homestead where they keep bees, raise pigs and chickens, produce over half their own food, and try to live as close to nature as they can.
There are many ways to become less reliant on modern systems and put us back into sync with Nature and Nature’s God. Come learn ways you can homestead in little and big ways including how to preserve food, how to raise healthy animals without a lot of land and which ones are best for the small homestead.

Colonial America and Constitution for Kids:
What was life like for children during the Revolutionary War? What was school like for kids who grew up in colonial America? This class will focus on what children would have learned in the years leading up to and following the creation of the Declaration of Independence and writing of the Constitution. America’s founders took the raising of children properly very seriously. Education was more rigorous and formal and ended at a younger age. Indeed a young man of 14 yrs old would need to choose between becoming an apprentice to a tradesman or entering a college or university like Harvard where they would need to master both Greek and Hebrew before graduating. We may even learn a contra dance or two as country dancing was one of the principal forms of recreation during the colonial period and receive an epacket of fun learning activities.

Constitutional Money: gold and silver: For thousands of years humans have come up with ways to barter, sell, and purchase goods from one another. Cattle, wheat, salt, even sea shells have served for the purpose of monetary exchange, but Gold and Silver have proved the most valuable units of exchange over time. This is why our founding fathers made gold and silver the standards by which money would be minted. The Constitution states: “ No state shall coin money, emit bills of credit, or make any thing but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts. ~ Art. I, sec. 10, cl. 1.
The constitutional dollar in the United States is an "historically determinate, fixed weight of fine silver." The current Federal Reserve dollar bill is not a constitutional dollar. Bartering and trade are an essential part of prepping and survival. Michelle will teach you why our founding fathers knew that a society would collapse if their monetary system was based on arbitrary means of determining value. We will take the fear out of acquiring precious metals and show you how they can be used in times of survival

Heather Swartz
Swartz Foods
www.oldschoolsurvivalbootcamp.com
May 17-19, 2024
Heather Swartz has worked in the food service industry for almost 30 years and has completed several degrees in food science and preparation. She is an avid lover of the outdoors and also good snacks! The idea for Swartz Foods came from the need to have more fun with friends and family and spend less time schlepping cooking stuff around when we are camping or hiking.
We used to bring a staggering amount of equipment with us to set up camp and make huge meals for the whole group which sometimes was upwards of 50 people. (We had an entire kitchen setup at one point.) As you can imagine this was a lot of work not only to make delicious
food but to keep it cold and safe to eat. We also had to do dishes forever!
Over the years we tried to evolve and dehydrate which was good but not great as it was still on the heavy side, the flavor suffered, and it was super time consuming.
So, after much planning, research, saving, and some generous donations from family, the freeze dryers were born! It has been a super fun time cooking and eating all the samples with friends and family and will continue to be as we expand. We are truly grateful and blessed for this opportunity and hope you enjoy them and grow with us!
Classes
Lye Soap Making: At Swartz Foods we cook a lot of beef which leads
to a lot of leftover fat. Instead of wasting this by throwing it away, we make lye soap! In this class you will learn to render the fat into tallow and then make that into creamy bars of soap. Afterwards you will be able to take a bar home with you to enjoy!
Granola Bags Make and Take: Children will get to decorate their own granola bag and then fill it with various snack items of their choice. We will offer a variety to choose from but please notify us of any allergies.

Water Planning : This presentation addresses the critical nature of water both in our everyday lives and in meeting our long-term survival needs. For the typical person in an urban environment, water is delivered without fanfare and in an almost unlimited quantity. It is also potable, meaning we don’t have to be concerned about contracting illnesses by its consumption. While country folk among us may have to work a little harder to get the water they need, they still aren’t usually limited by its amount or quality. It is only when things go south that water becomes precious and paramount. The main point is that you should have a viable plan to address your water needs wherever you are. You don’t have the luxury of waiting until your faucet
runs dry to begin addressing the matter. The time to prepare is now!
During the seminar, we will discuss the importance of water to the human body and
the impact of its shortage on bodily functions. Then we will move on to the water
cycle from a consumer’s perspective. Next, we will lay out the basic aspects of a
water plan. These include sources, access, collection, transportation, storage,
preparation, and consumption. Finally, we will discuss methods of water conservation, to drastically reduce unnecessary use. Your take away from this seminar will be an increased understanding of the role of water in our lives and how you can establish and maintain sufficient water to carry on under long-term duress. And combined with water treatment products found at the GetReady! booth,
you will be confident in your ability to survive.
Trauma Tools: Learn what skills and tools you will need to serve as your own first responder or doctor during a disaster scenario.

David also presents seminars and courses on trauma treatment, water treatment, bartering, emergency kits, land navigation, food planning, foraging, and scavenging. Dietrich provides his services and products through GetReady! Emergency Planning Center. His business focuses on first aid, water treatment, food, and survival gear.
Advanced Life Saving: Introduction
This workshop goes beyond the foundations of Basic First Aid and CPR/AED. It develops a practical knowledge of treatment methods for critical (i.e. life-threatening) trauma injuries (not medical) affecting the human circulatory and respiratory systems. With a basic understanding of the types and purposes of blood vessels, as well as airway and lungs, participants will learn how to increase a victim’s survival and recovery chances. This workshop is designed for people with limited to no medical background. It is not for medical professionals. However, standard procedures will be used to the maximum extent possible. When there is no one else around, are you willing to step up and take the action necessary to save someone’s life? Without a formal Emergency Medical System, you are the First Responder. During this Workshop, we will discuss basic anatomical features and processes, types of bleeding and breathing anomalies, and the reasons and methods for treating
each. You will learn that the most important aspects of any treatment approach are Scene and Patient Assessment. In the former case, your safety is paramount. In the latter, only by knowing the nature of the emergency can you appropriately treat the
patient.
Once a decision is made, action must be decisive. Time is of the essence. We’re talking no more than ten minutes, with every minute less giving the patient a better survival chance. Various resources will be used during the Workshop, focused on individual proficiency in a team-based training format. This will be a four-hour class, with each participant leaving with his own tourniquet. There is a $100 per adult only student fee for this half day Saturday only class.

I will move to challenge what you think you know on this topic as well as give you some basics on how to avoid and de-escalate violence should you find yourself embroiled in it.
Many people attended this course more than once at OSS 2023! The feedback I received here was universally positive and many wanted to learn more even after the course was over! This is my goal when I present this information to you, just as when I present it to people who choose the path of “Violence Professionals” as a large government agency trainer.
Minimum age of class attendees: None, however due to the nature of the topic Parental Discretion is advised
Less Lethal Weapons for the Prepared Citizen: Most in the preparedness community have the firearm thing figured out, many have spent much time thinking about the firearm when it comes to preparedness and homesteading as the “security” side of the equation and leave it there.
The PROBLEM is that not all of peoples security and defensive needs can always be solved with a lethal force solution. There are many circumstances when only having a firearm for a security/defense issue would be the equivalent of only having a hammer for assembling Ikea furniture.
This course is to provide people with the best and most proven options that don’t include lethal force. I will deep dive into what is out there to the regular Joe civilian as well as what is effective and what is not based on research and (most importantly) PERSONAL EXPERIENCE testing and actually using these items over two decades.
Inert training devices will be made available and demonstrations and opportunities to try these items will be provided!
Minimum age of class attendees: None, however due to the nature of the topic Parental Discretion is advised
Classes
Interpersonal Violence Dynamics and Realistic De-Escalation: Many people have ideas of what interpersonal violence is and how it works. Many people have developed strategies to deal with violence in their minds. However, many people have been personally destroyed when violence reveals itself to them and what they “believed” was based on bad, outdated, unrealistic or illegal concepts.
The truth is this: what most people have in their heads on interpersonal violence is based on the media, what they have been taught or some personal experience. As it turns out, a LOT of what they believe is woefully incomplete or just wrong…. This course gives you the basic concepts on how real violence actually happens to real people in the real world. We will spend some time on how to identify the types of violence that actually occurs and move to “demystify” how and why humans become violent. We then will spend some time on how to prevent or defuse violence from happening to you regardless of your situation.

Who is this Guy!?
Why should I listen to him?
What are his CREDENTIALS!?
All of these are legitimate questions and if you are asking them, you are already proving you are smart and taking this stuff seriously. That is a good thing. So let me lay a few things out.
First off, I have a real job and this ain't it. In my world this is called a "hustle."
See, I work as a full time trainer for an armed government agency. Before I got that job I worked in prisons wearing a badge, a pair of handcuffs, a body alarm and a smile. As time went on, I got more stuff to wear on my belt, I even carried a gun from time to time depending on where I worked. But that is all I can say about that. I wont say where, or what department, or what part of the country, or anything like that.
Social media policy, it is a…….. you know what.
If you don't believe me, I don't really care and I still won't tell you any of those details because this business does not pay my bills, feed my kids or supply my retirement. If you don't want to listen to what I have to say because I am not credible to you because I won't give you my government Email Address, that's cool.
But if you take me at my word, then there are a few other things that I need to lay out.....
First, I am NOT a cop. In fact, as soon as I punch out of where I work, I get no "off duty" police powers, qualified immunity, the benefit of the doubt, any of that. In other words I am just a regular guy, with no legal or moral obligations other than any guy who works at any other regular job. I have to have a regular old CCW license and have to follow the exact same rules as everybody else who is not a cop.
Just like you. Except, I had to go to and still go to all kinds of cool "cop training," I had to know the law, I had to know how to fight with everything from my bare hands to a grenade launcher, I had to know how to talk to people who want to kill me and hate me on a regular basis. I had to learn how to live in a soup of stress, fear and confusion mixed in with boredom and human feces. More importantly to you, I had to know how to TEACH people who literally worked at Pizza Hut two days before how to do all of that stuff too.
And I got about three weeks to do it.
Government training budgets, they are a…….. you know what.
So yeah, I do a lot of training. I take extra training, more than the government gives me. I read a lot of books. I have been in my share of fights. I have dealt with the people that you don't want to ever meet on a daily basis and got into their heads and their business. I have seen first hand how violence can devastate a man psychologically, how a violent act of a predator can cause a traumatic injury that can change a woman into a totally different person, how bad tactics can get you hurt when they are supposed to work, how a person freezes under combative stress, how the body and mind can fail in the moment of extreme violence. I have seen the best of the best....And the worst of the worst. So how I train my people, what I train them and the effort I put into them, directly affects how safe they are, how to handle it and how to avoid the bad outcomes.
That level of burden falls on me. I own it. So I try not to screw around. What I teach is what works, What I sell is what I know works. I dumped the "cool guy stuff" a long time ago. I have been taught a bunch of "cool guy stuff" that instructors use to make themselves look cool. I have used equipment that is total garbage. I have even tried to use some of it in the real world and it failed. Believe me, it is terrifying when it doesn't work and you need it to. I don't have time for that. You don't either dammit! Don't get me wrong here, I am not an A-hole. In fact, most of my students report to me that I am pretty enjoyable to learn from. People even call me funny. One of my instructors told me recently, "That is one thing I like about you Jones, you can get people laughing and they listen to you and learn better because of it."
But I am intense at times. I have been told that I can be "intimidating." But to quote Clint Smith: "You think I am scary?! I am baby Jesus compared to the average predator." I tend to agree. And I Love you.
That sounds hokey and weird, but I love all of my students whether they are officers, teachers, high school students, Doctors, sheriff's deputies, college students, Girl Scouts or just mindful citizens. I teach them all because I love them and I don't want to see them fail when they deal with the number one human phobia, interpersonal violence.
So that is who I am. That is why you should maybe listen to me. Those are my "credentials." If you don't think that is good enough, that's fine with me. RDMFJONES.COM

Robert Mendris
www.oldschoolsurvivalbootcamp.com
College Professor
May 17-19, 2024
Robert grew up in Czechoslovakia, a former communist country, where he studied mathematics and physics. He wanted to teach mathematics but was told that only members of the communist party can teach. Fortunately, the Velvet Revolution came and the communist party lost power. After the revolution, the country needed economists. Since its economy used to be governed by direct commands from the communist party, real economists were not needed and so no schools for them existed. So people like Robert and his classmates, who were able to take textbooks in macro- and microeconomics, study them--literally overnight, and excel in the subject the next day,
became the drivers of the new country's economy. That is why Robert worked
in the finance industry―as a financial analyst, interim mutual fund president, and CEO of a brokerage company. After the government turned back to communism, and essentially killed the free market, he departed for the
United States where he completed his PhD in Mathematics at the Ohio State
University. Then he followed his calling to teach mathematics, and currently
holds the position of Professor of Mathematics at a state university. At the same time, Robert wanted to apply what he learned and so he also worked as a consultant in a company making
superconducting coils for MRI's.
After Robert realized that communists are working to take over the U.S., he was looking for another country to move again, away from communists. However, he couldn't find any place in the world where the situation would be better. So, he decided to stay, study the U.S. constitution, and become a U.S. citizen so he can better fight the communists.

Immigrant from a Communist Country Parts 1 and P: Learn why Robert and his family fled from living under Communist control, what life was like living under the unfair and brutal system and signs to watch for to make sure communism and socialism are not seeping into the American culture, life, and government.

Building an off-grid House: Learn how Robert built his home entirely off grid and how his system were e installed and function. Get budgeting and priority tips, as well.
Nutrition for preppers: Learn about the body’s nutritional needs not just now, but during a more physically and mentally exhausting long-term emergency scenario and what food stuffs (and quantities) you should stockpile.
Survival Science for Kids: Have some hands-on science fun while learning life skills that will serve you well both now and if disaster strikes.
End Times: Deception: Learn to be a discerning listening and consumer of news and events.

Angi Shinaver
Veterinary Assistant
www.oldschoolsurvivalbootcamp.com
May 17-19, 2024
Angi is a mother of 4 and grandmother of 9 as well as years of being a pet mom. She was unable to have pets as a child due to family health issues and when those
issues were resolved, her mom just knew she was one of those kids that would
bring home every stray. She did try but unfortunately, a garter snake wasn’t a hit. During her teens, they had a family dog and from them on, she was hooked. She moved out on my own and started with two “male”
mice...we all know where that ended up. After marrying, her home became
residence for reptiles, birds, rodents, dogs, cats and even potbelly pigs. She has always lived in urban or semi-urban places or she would have had livestock as well. After 25 years in the HVAC industry She decided it was time for a change and became a veterinary assistant at a local clinic. She spent another 15 years in that field. During her time with the veterinarians, she gathered a large amount of knowledge and experience regarding first aid and wellness care and has experienced just about any illness or injury with her own pets as well,
including parvovirus and bordatella. Being on a tight budget, She had to handle a lot of things on her own. She has stitched up wounds and splinted legs and
paws more times than she can count. She is sharing her knowledge and experience with you but as always, consulting a licensed veterinarian is always the best choice to determine treatment or obtain medications. In a SHTF situation, the knowledge you will obtain from this class may possibly save your pets life or at least stabilize their condition until you can reach the
vet.
Classes
Pet Preparedness and care when the Vet's Not There: This class will focus on the basics of prepping items for small animal pets (dogs, cats, rabbits, etc), It will also cover SHTF type behavior and confinement, basic first aid treatments, medication administration, restraint techniques and the specialty items for a pet first aid kit. Children accompanied by an adult are welcome in this class.

Ray’s motto is ... “Real Prepping for Real People - None of the Hollywood Stuff.” He currently lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia with his wife Cynthia, his daughter and their four dogs. The Mhor family enjoys living the homesteading and preparedness lifestyle.
Classes
Dehydrating: In today’s preparedness arena so many people are stocking up freeze dried food as well as canning their excess from the garden. But what is surprising is that many preparedness and homesteaders are not taking real advantage of a good dehydrator. Well, some do but it seems only for making beef jerky, but your dehydrator can do so much more. When talking about dehydrators, I am not talking about those inexpensive round ones you get at Walmart.
My dehydrator of choice is the Excalibur 9 tray, which just has one dial and super easy to use. In this class I will be covering topics like… - Why The Dehydrator vs Canning and Freeze Drying - Let Your Dehydrator Save You Money at The Grocery Store - The cheap plastic stacking dehydrator models (Nesco, Presto, Ronco, Hamilton Beach, etc) are inexpensive, but they have a LOT of drawbacks -
OH… Did I Mention Pickle Powder? Please join me for this class and expand your food prepping horizons.
You will be glad you did and so will your family
